Coming Home to Yourself in a World That Feels Unsettled

The peace we seek outside ourselves often begins with reconnecting to the wisdom within.

There are times when the world around us feels especially unsettled.

We hear the conflicting voices, witness the discord, navigate political upheaval, and experience the pressures and uncertainties of everyday life. Even when we aren’t directly involved in what’s happening, the energy of it can affect how we feel, think, and move through our days.

It’s easy to become consumed by what’s happening outside of us.

We can find ourselves worrying about tomorrow, trying to make sense of things we cannot control, or waiting for circumstances to change before allowing ourselves to feel peaceful again.

But what if we approached these times differently?

What if, rather than looking outside ourselves for stability, we began reconnecting with the place within us that is already grounded in wisdom, love, and peace?

Remembering Your Soulful Self

Beneath the roles we play, the responsibilities we carry, and the thoughts and emotions that often occupy our attention, there is a deeper part of us.

I call this our Soulful Self.

It is the part of us that knows who we are beyond our conditioning, expectations, fears, and external circumstances.

When we reconnect with this deeper aspect of ourselves, we begin to experience life differently.

We may not be able to change the circumstances around us, but we can change the place within ourselves from which we meet those circumstances.

We become less reactive and more present.

Less consumed by the noise and more connected to our own inner knowing.

Less focused on what we cannot control and more available to the peace, clarity, and wisdom that are accessible in this moment.

This isn’t about ignoring the realities of life or pretending everything is fine.

It’s about remembering that we have an inner resource that can support us through life’s uncertainties.

The Invitation to Come Home

Coming home to yourself is not another thing to accomplish.

It is an opportunity to pause, breathe, listen, and remember.

It is allowing yourself to step away from the constant demands of doing and managing and reconnect with simply being.

Sometimes it begins with one conscious breath.

Sometimes it comes through quiet reflection, meditation, or giving yourself permission to feel what you’ve been carrying.

And sometimes it happens when we gather with others who are also seeking a deeper connection with themselves.

The more we cultivate this relationship with our Soulful Self, the more naturally we can bring presence, compassion, harmony, and peace into our everyday experiences.

You don’t have to wait for the world to become peaceful to begin experiencing peace within yourself.

The Beautiful Gifts That Arrive When We Slow Down and Receive

September became a beautiful reminder that life has so much to offer when we give ourselves permission to slow down, rest, and simply receive.

My month was filled with unexpected gifts, meaningful connections, and moments that nourished me in ways that went far beyond relaxation.

I had the privilege of attending a women’s retreat on the beautiful shores of Flathead Lake in Montana, surrounded by nature, heartfelt connection, and the wisdom that emerges when women gather to share their journeys. There was something deeply nourishing about being present, listening, sharing, and allowing myself to simply be.

I spent time with a dear friend in Whitefish, Montana, a place I called home for many years. Reconnecting with good friends, sharing meals, exchanging spiritual insights, and exploring life’s deeper meanings reminded me of the richness that comes from relationships where we can show up authentically and learn from one another.

There were also unexpected gifts along the way—delicious dinners, thoughtful presents, a memorable trip into Glacier National Park, and the generosity and love of people who made me feel so welcomed and cared for.

As I reflect on these experiences, I realize that some of the most meaningful gifts weren’t the places I visited or the things I received. They were the moments of feeling connected, supported, loved, and open to whatever life was offering.

I was reminded that receiving is a gift in itself.

So often, we become accustomed to being the ones who give, care for others, make things happen, and hold everything together. We can forget that we, too, are meant to be nourished. That we don’t always have to be doing, planning, fixing, or giving to be valuable.

Sometimes, the invitation is simply to soften, open our hearts, and allow ourselves to receive.

And in that space, something beautiful happens. We reconnect with ourselves. We hear the quiet wisdom within. We remember that life isn’t meant to be only managed or endured—it is meant to be experienced, savored, and fully lived.

My September was a gentle reminder that coming home to ourselves often begins when we stop striving and start allowing ourselves to be held by life.

As I return to my work and the offerings I share with others, I carry this reminder with me: we don’t have to wait for a special trip, a retreat, or a quiet month to experience this connection.

We can begin right where we are.

With a conscious breath. A moment of stillness. An open heart. A willingness to receive the goodness that may already be here.

What might become possible if you allowed yourself to receive as generously as you give?

Perhaps the most beautiful gift we can offer ourselves is the permission to slow down, reconnect with the wisdom within, and come home to who we truly are.

Presence is Power: Trusting the Transformation Within

An acorn does not look like an oak tree.

A caterpillar does not look like a butterfly.

And two tiny human cells do not look anything like the child they are becoming.

Yet within each of them is something extraordinary: the potential for transformation.

The acorn already carries within it the blueprint for the mighty oak. It doesn’t have to strive to become an oak tree. It needs the right conditions—soil, water, sunlight, time—and the willingness to respond to what is happening within it.

The caterpillar enters the chrysalis looking one way and emerges completely transformed.

And at the very beginning of human life, two microscopic cells come together and begin an unfolding so miraculous that, given the right conditions, they become a human being.

Nature doesn’t rush transformation.

It doesn’t question whether the process is working.

It doesn’t look around and compare itself to what has already emerged.

It simply participates in the process of becoming.

What if we did the same?

So often, when we find ourselves in a season of change, we want to know what’s coming.

What am I supposed to do next?

Am I making the right decision?

When will things finally make sense?

What if I fail?

What if I’m not enough?

We can become so focused on the future that we miss the only place where transformation is actually occurring: this moment.

This is where presence becomes powerful.

Presence doesn’t mean that we have all the answers.

It doesn’t mean that we know exactly where our life is taking us.

Presence means becoming willing to be here—with ourselves, with our uncertainty, with our grief, with our hope, and with whatever is asking to emerge.

The acorn doesn’t need to become the oak tree today.

The caterpillar doesn’t need to know what it will feel like to have wings.

And perhaps we don’t need to know exactly who we are becoming either.

Transformation often begins invisibly.

Think about the seasons of your own life.

There may have been moments when something ended before you knew what would begin.

A relationship ended.

A career changed.

A child grew up and needed you differently.

Your body changed.

Someone you loved died.

You reached a point where an old way of living simply no longer fit.

From the outside, it may have looked like loss, confusion, or even failure.

But something else may have been happening beneath the surface.

You were transforming.

Sometimes the most significant changes in our lives begin quietly.

Before the new relationship.

Before the new career.

Before the new purpose.

Before we know what comes next.

There is often a period of not knowing.

A sacred space between what was and what is becoming.

And that space can feel uncomfortable.

We may want to escape it.

But what if we learned to become present within it?

Presence allows us to hear what is emerging.

When we slow down enough to be present, we begin to notice things we couldn’t hear when we were constantly moving.

A quiet inner knowing.

A longing we’ve pushed aside.

A boundary that needs to be honored.

A dream that hasn’t died.

A truth we’ve been afraid to acknowledge.

A part of ourselves that is ready to come home.

Presence creates space for these things to surface.

And when they do, we have a choice.

We can return to the familiar because it feels safer.

Or we can become curious about the person who is emerging.

This doesn’t mean making impulsive decisions.

It means listening.

Breathing.

Noticing.

Trusting ourselves enough to take the next honest step.

There is power in the pause.

I have spent decades accompanying people through profound transitions—from the beginning of life in labor and delivery, through addiction and mental health recovery, and into the sacred threshold of hospice and end-of-life care.

Again and again, I have witnessed that life is not a straight line.

It is a continual unfolding.

There are beginnings.

Endings.

Thresholds.

Periods of uncertainty.

And moments when something within us shifts and we know:

I cannot go back to who I was.

That realization can be frightening.

It can also be deeply liberating.

Because perhaps the question isn’t:

“How do I get back to the person I used to be?”

Perhaps the question is:

“Who am I becoming now?”

You don’t have to force the butterfly.

A butterfly cannot be rushed out of its chrysalis.

An oak tree cannot be pulled upward by its branches.

And we cannot force ourselves into the next version of our lives simply because we are uncomfortable with where we are now.

Transformation has its own timing.

Our work is not always to make something happen.

Sometimes our work is to create the conditions that allow what is already within us to emerge.

To become still enough to listen.

Gentle enough to feel.

Courageous enough to tell the truth.

And present enough to recognize the next step when it appears.

This is why presence is power.

Not because being present gives us control over life.

But because presence gives us access to ourselves.

And when we are connected to ourselves, we are better able to meet whatever life is asking of us.

Perhaps you are in a chrysalis season right now.

Perhaps something in your life has ended and you don’t yet know what is beginning.

Perhaps you are carrying an acorn of possibility that you haven’t yet planted.

Or perhaps, without realizing it, you have already begun to grow.

You don’t need to have the whole path figured out.

You don’t need to know exactly what the finished version looks like.

For today, you might simply pause.

Take a breath.

Put your feet on the ground.

And ask yourself:

What is asking to emerge within me now?

Then listen.

Not for the entire answer.

Just for the next small truth.

Because transformation doesn’t happen all at once.

It happens moment by moment.

Breath by breath.

Choice by choice.

And sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is simply become fully present for the becoming.

You are not behind.

You are not broken.

You are becoming.

And there is power in being present for the journey.

Lessons from End-of-Life Moments

I’ve sat with many people at the end of their lives… and what most people imagine about those moments isn’t actually what I experienced.
What I saw, more often than not, were families who were overwhelmed…
trying to make the right decisions, not knowing what to do, feeling the weight of it all.
There was fear.
There was uncertainty.
And there was this quiet sense of… “Are we doing this right?”
And in the middle of that, I watched people try to manage something that… at a certain point… can’t be controlled.
But underneath all of that—under the decisions, the emotions, the effort to hold everything together—there were deeper things surfacing.
Things that hadn’t been said.
Conversations that hadn’t happened.
Love that hadn’t fully been expressed.
And I started to notice that at the end of life, the same themes came up again and again—not medical… but deeply human.
And it changed how I see everything.
Not just death… but how we’re living right now.
Because what I realized is… those moments don’t suddenly create something new.
They reveal what’s already there.
So what I want to share with you today isn’t theory…
It’s what I witnessed… and what it taught me about being present, completing what matters, and actually living our lives more fully—before we get to that moment.

That’s why I’ve created a 6 week program called “Before It’s Too Late: A 6-Week Journey into Living Fully“.  What I’ve learned—from both sitting with the dying and living this myself—is that insight is powerful… but real change happens when we walk it out over time, with support. In these six weeks, we’ll gently move through:
• Learning how to be more present with your life as it is
• Identifying and completing what feels unfinished or unresolved
• And beginning to actually live in a way that feels more honest and aligned for you.

This is for you if you’re in a moment of transition…
if something in your life is asking to change…
or if you know you don’t want to keep living on autopilot, but you’re not fully sure what’s next.

What I see happen in this kind of space is that people don’t just understand these ideas…
they start making real shifts—conversations they’ve been avoiding, choices they’ve been postponing, ways of showing up that feel more true. I’m not looking for a lot of people—I’m looking for the right people who are ready for this kind of work. The investment is $397. Contact me at jewelleagrant@yahoo.com

Embracing Life’s Essence: Lessons from a Final Moment

I had an experience once that stayed with me…

I was sitting with a woman who was very close to the end of her life. Her body was shutting down… but there was also a kind of stillness in the room.

And in that space, I had a very clear inner vision.

I saw a young blonde girl… running through tall grass… with complete joyful, aliveness.

And I just knew—it was her.

Not as she was at the end… but as something essential about her. Something untouched.

And what struck me wasn’t just the beauty of it…

It was the contrast.

Because like many people, her life had been complex. There were things unfinished, parts of herself that hadn’t fully been lived or expressed.

And in that moment, it felt like I was seeing both truths at once—
who she had been… and who she had always been underneath it all.

And it made me realize…

That part of us—that aliveness, that freedom—doesn’t go away.

But the question is… how much of it do we actually allow ourselves to live while we’re here?

Stress Buster

In today’s world there are so many stressors, uncertainties, challenges, conflicts, political unrest, the list goes on. How do you manage your stress? How do you relieve your anxiety? How do you create balance in your life?

As a mental health nurse and doctor of spiritual sciences,  I see the outcome of chronic stress which is depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal ideation, self harm, homicidal ideation, physical disease such as cancer, fibromyalgia, IBS, ulcers, hypertension, heart attacks, insomnia, chronic pain and the list goes on.

So how does one balance life, reduce stress and experience greater health and wellbeing?

The number one stress buster ………drum roll, please…………!!

MEDITATION

It is also the number one most resisted practice due to busy minds.  I often hear “I can’t quiet my mind enough to meditate or even sit still very long.” The unfortunate reality is that we have been taught to put our attention on our physical world reality,  our chattering minds and all of what life has to offer instead of being taught the  importance and effectiveness of meditation, contemplation, spiritual exercises and the many powerful benefits of this practice.

Meditation has been found to be effective at decreasing anxiety, stress, depression and PTSD symptoms. Meditation is beneficial for memory, focus, concentration as well as increasing pain tolerance and providing relief from insomnia.

I encourage my clients to start meditating with 1 minute a day for 1 week and then increase to 3 or 5 minutes a day for a week. Continue to increase the time according to successful completion of previous week.

There are various approaches to meditation. For instance, it can be useful to use the breath or a mantra or an image to return your focus once you realize your mind took off on the “to do” list. Gently refocus your attention on your object of focus without judgment or thinking you’re  not doing it right. The only wrong way to meditate is to NOT to meditate.

Be gentle with yourself. Allow your experience to be what it is with non-judgment and a whole lot of acceptance. It is like building a muscle, it takes time, diligence, practice and patience. A clear heart-felt intention and devotion can go a long way.

I also offer the tone HU as an object of focus. It is either sung as H….. U…. or as a constant tone of HUUUUU. It is important to give it a musical tone as you chant HU inside. Give HU your focus for 30 seconds and then allow silence in order to receive messages or downloads from your High Self/Soul. HU is an ancient Sanskrit term meaning God essence. HU-MAN. God essence animating the person.

As you become more proficient you will experience space between your thoughts that is a peaceful expansion and beyond. I hope you give it a try and it turns into a daily practice that soothes your stress and gives you greater peace, joy, health, and inner freedom.

In my experience it was very challenging the first few years with a great deal of mind chatter and urges to go do something. But since my doctorate programs curriculum was a 2 hour recommendation, I persisted and eventually reached the 2 hours of spiritual exercises which is an active practice using spiritual tones as a focus. The result has been a deepening in my connection to my spiritual essence in and out of meditation, greater joy, inner freedom, confidence and inner knowing I am taken care of and loved no matter what.

Let me know if you need support or have questions. I wish you the very best on your journey of awakening.

Using the mind in service to the heart!

I use to wake up most mornings with a mind full of thoughts that were worrisome in nature. “What if I don’t have enough money this month? What if I there is too long a line for the metro ticket? Should I just hire a taxi and pay the extra $20.00? What if they don’t call me into work again today? What if they hate my presentation?” And the list of chattering fear thoughts would go on and on.

Today, I am more aware of how to use my mind in service to my heart. For so long, I’ve allowed my mind to run a muck, then to make matters worse, I believed what my mind was telling me. No wonder I experienced stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. My facilitators Dr. Ron and Dr. Mary Hulnick at University of Santa Monica would remind us that the mind is to be used in service to the heart. I guess I never really understood what they meant by that until recently.

Over the years, as I observe my thoughts and how fear based they are, I continue to commit to practicing neutral observation. The more I distance myself from living in the fear thoughts to observing the fear thoughts I am aware of greater ease in my body, mind and spirit. As I observe the mind and it’s various antics I am more aware of the place inside that is observing and witnessing the antics of the mind. From the place of observation I can let go of believing in the fear thoughts that are presented, as if these fear thoughts were reality, let alone sane.

Instead of engaging in the negative future fantasy, for yet another minute, I remembered I could instead engage in positive future fantasy. “I get to have time off to write on my thesis. I have plenty of money in my savings. I love my home and how beautiful and safe it is. I am so grateful for my health.” etc. When thinking these positive thoughts I am aware of my body relaxing and my emotions calming. I am aware of breathing more easily and exhaling with a sense of peace and faith that all is well. What’s ironic is that these positive thoughts are more truthful. These positive thoughts are in service to my heart.

In order to let your mind be in service to your heart, I recommend that you begin by observing your thoughts. Get familiar with just observing your thoughts as you go through your day. Recognize the content of your thoughts. Then begin to notice the observer or witness of your thoughts. Spend time with this place inside that is just noticing your thoughts. Get to know this place inside. The witness is a doorway into your heart and soul. As you become more in tune with the observer you will begin to tap into the essence of yourself as The Beloved. The I AM. The Presence of your Is-ness. The more we reside in the essence of our TRUE SELF the more joy, peace, love and bliss we experience. Life becomes easier. We are more in tune with the flow of Grace because we are Grace.

If you are interested in connecting to your True Self more consistently so that you can experience greater joy, peace, love and bliss, email me at jewelleagrant@yahoo.com or set up your complimentary breakthrough session at jewelleagrant.as.me, TODAY! In the meantime notice the observer and allow yourself to experience the essence of your True Self. Namaste Beloved.

Be – Do – Have

We are conditioned to Do in order to have the things we desire so that we can ultimately experience happiness. As a student at the University of Santa Monica, in the master’s program of Spiritual Psychology, I was introduced to the concept of Be – Do – Have. The more I practice residing in the heart of who I am as a spiritual being the more I am attuned to the power of BEING. As I center in my being ness and then take action from that place inside, I am aware of greater ease and grace, showing up in my daily life.

Most of my life, the focus has been on taking actions and doing. My personal experience is one of effort and struggle as I took actions in order to have what it was I thought I wanted so that I could experience peace and joy. I struggled to get what I wanted which was ultimately joy. I thought that if I completed my to – do list I would be at peace. But that rarely happened. I experienced moments of relief when I accomplished the items on my to-do list. Invariably the relief was short lived. There was always more to do. Such the nature of being human.

As I connect and reside in the infinite consciousness of my Self II am noticing actions coming from a place of inspiration. As I take actions from inspiration (In-Spirit) I am aware of greater ease and grace. It has taken many years to connect to the place inside that is eternal, peaceful and expansive. The number one method I have used to connect to my Presence is Spiritual Exercises. Through my doctorate program I learned that the only wrong way to do Spiritual Exercises was to not do them. I began with 2 minutes and over time built up to 2 hours a day. It was through commitment and accountability to my SELF that I maintained a practice of daily spiritual exercises.. The more I spent time in connection with my True Self through spiritual exercises the more I experienced changes in my life. Everything that no longer served my True Self had to go.

I was married at the time to an active alcoholic who acted as if he were sober. He was lying to everyone including himself, I suppose. The more I became connected to my divinity, the more I became self empowered to live according to my values and Soul’s calling. The more I connected to my SELF and lived my Soul’s calling the more the relationship crumpled. He succumbed to his addictions due to his unresolved shame. It wasn’t long before I left the marriage. There was no choice but to leave. When you claim your inner inheritance as an extension of Universal Creation there is no choice but to let go of negativity. Negativity can be your own addictions or someone else addictions. Negativity of any form resided in against-ness. As we connect to the eternal Source of our being-ness it is a given that against-ness no longer serves us or our lives.

When you begin or expand your spiritual life it is common for your life to shift in ways that bring you to your knees. The ego is devastated. The Essence of your Divine Self is elated. Pain is the touch stone of spiritual growth and expansion. In my doctorate program we are reminded to use everything for our learning, growth and upliftment. The greatest pain yields the greatest blessings. Today I am freer than I have ever been. I am residing more often in my Essence of the pure Self. I am braver, calmer, happier and more faithful. I am slowly but surely making spiritual progress. Oh by the way, as you connect more spiritually, there are those who will try to tear you down. There will be those in your past who will throw your human-ness and errors of your ego in your face. They will try to destroy you with your past human-ness. Stay strong in your inner knowing that ultimately “You do not exist.”

Soul Awareness

Are you tired of being consumed by thoughts of self doubt, not good enough, confusion, overwhelm, wanting more out of life, forcing solution, not knowing how to get what you want, missing something but not knowing what it is? That is known as the human condition. There is also a beautiful experience of being hu-man. We have many wonderful experiences as a “man” and “wo-man”. We desire more of these wonderful experiences.

There is a greater part of us that is alive, clear, expansive and peaceful. It is the HU in human. We have been conditioned to ignore this power and awareness within. We have been conditioned to put our focus on developing our self concept and our lives to match the expectations of the environment we grew up in and the world’s expectations at large.

We try to be the best somebody we can be. Our effort has or hasn’t paid off. We eventually realize there is something missing. What is the missing piece? The missing piece is the awareness of yourself as Soul. We are and have a powerful force within us that is imperishable, eternal, nameless and grounded in immense joy. Joy is the expression of who we are as spiritual beings. It is the HU in human. We are woman/man AND we are Soul. We are eternal essence of Be-ing.

So how do we tap into the truth of who we are? We begin by recognizing the Self that is aware of the movements of our inward and outward lives at the same time. Notice experiences, thoughts and feelings that come and go. Begin by residing in this place of awareness. Observe. It is a detached and neutral place inside that is infinite, peaceful, expansive and joyful. It is a process of laying down the mask of self concept and releasing the ego strategies of making life the way you think it should be. But rather trusting grace as you marinate in the awareness of who you are as Spirit. Soul Awareness is a moment to moment practice in the beginning. It is a process of recognition of your Self as the Truth. There is no wrong way of being with your Self. The important piece is to BE with your SELF as often as possible.

The more I practiced Soul Awareness through my Doctorate in Spiritual Sciences the more my life changed in a way that supported me and my spiritual insights. Today, I experience things, people, jobs, problems, concerns, fears, and doubts dissipating into nothingness in which they came as I practice Soul Awareness. The more I reside in the presence of my Be-ing the more I am aware of how insignificant my ruminating thoughts of the past and future are. It has become easier to access and reside in Truth. It is a huge gift to know that I AM. The Kingdom of God is within. We all reside within the Kingdom of God and our inherent nature is Royal and Divine. It is our mission to expose this Truth to ourselves and others.

I have been challenged with a great loss 3 years ago and today I understand that the “loss” was a release of a relationship that did not align with my Heart or Spirit. As heartbreaking as it was to leave a lifestyle, my home and community, I am aware of how divine it has been for providing me with a more kind and accepting relationship with my Self. It has been a powerful circumstance that has open me up to know my SELF. It has strengthened me in ways I could only have hoped for. I walk freer today as the result of allowing Soul Awareness to be activated in myself.

Often it takes a break down of our current life to get our attention. If you find yourself wondering “is this all there is?” you are probably ready to connect to your SELF in a new way. I am here in loving service to your transformation. Schedule your complimentary breakthrough session at jewelleagrant.as.me. Lets get busy in the business of transforming you and your relationship with your SELF so that you can live more fearlessly, aligning with your True Self, experiencing greater health, wealth and happiness. I see you and your magnificence. I see you as a beautiful Soul.
